CAVIAR HIGHLIGHTS MELBOURNE PREMIER SALE
22-02-2011
The Melbourne Premier Sale’s reputation as the source of the World’s best sprinters was further underlined as Black Caviar left onlookers searching for superlatives with her Lightning Stakes win on Saturday.
Remarkably, the Premier Sale boasted three of the World’s top five rated sprinters in 2010, with Black Caviar heading the list on 123. Fellow Melbourne graduates Sacred Kingdom and Starspangledbanner made the list with a 121 figure. (Rocket Man’s 121 gave Australian-breds four of the top
five positions).
Additionally, Ultra Fantasy – another Premier graduate – took out a Group 1 leg of the Global Sprint Challenge in Japan last year.
Black Caviar (Bel Esprit-Helsinge, by Desert Sun) was purchased out of the 2008 sale for $210,000 and she has now won nine from nine for $1.6million in earnings.
A Casino Prince half-brother to Black Caviar will be offered at April’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale as Lot 277. Black Caviar’s win was timely for the Melbourne Premier Sale, which begins next Monday and runs over four sessions.
The 2011 catalogue includes 83 siblings to stakes winners (up from 74 in 2010) and 92 yearlings from stakes winning dams (up from 78 in 2010).
Highlight lots include 16 yearlings from Group 1 winning dams and 16 youngsters that are either half, three quarter of full relations to Group 1 winners.
