Peter Moody's first taste of Group 1 succes came in November 2001 when his Carnegie colt Amalfi owned by Ron & Judy Wanless took out the VRC Derby, this win helped establish Peter in Victoria where he had set up a small satellite stable, in 2003 after continued success Peter closed his Queensland operation to concentrate on his expanding Caulfield base.

Growing up in Charleville in Country Queensland and having worked for legendary trainers T.J. Smith & Colin Hayes , Peter went on to be foreman for Bill Mitchell for 10 years before applying and being granted a number one trainers licence.

2003 not only brought the move to the new Caulfield base it also brought the next Group 1 success which came with sprinting mare Ancient Song, purchased by Laurel Oak Bloodstock and long time client Stuart Ramsey the mare in just her third start for the stable took out the Salinger Stakes on Derby Day. Stuart Ramsey's committment to the stable was again rewarded in 2004 when Sky Cuddle took out the Group 1 Emirates Stakes on the last day of the Flemington Carnival.

Further Group 1 success has followed with Testafiable taking out the 2006 S.A. Derby, and the win of Magnus in the 2007 A.J.C The Galaxy after placing's in both the Group 1 Lightning Stakes and Oakleigh Plate it was a well deserved win for owner and breeder Robert Crabtree and partners, and also in 2007 was the very special victory of Cinque Cento in the Doomben Cup again for long time friends and clients Stuart and Trish Ramsey and family. 2008 saw our first multiple Group 1 winner in the form of the super tough Riva San, in the space of a week this filly took out the Group 1 QTC Oaks & QTC Derby. In the Autumn of 2009 three more Group 1's came our way in three different states, the first being Reward For Effort in the Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield, this was then followed by Typhoon Tracy in the Coolmare Classic at Rosehill and finally Markus Maximus in the WA Derby.

There are around 60 horses in the stable at Caulfield and Peter believes this is a good manageable number that allows him to keep track of each horse and give it his personal attention.

Peter's training approach is to prepare each horse for its strengths, whether it's a sprinter, a middle distance horse or a stayer and according to his client's objectives. This flexible approach allows Peter to provide a complete training service across the board.

By seeing each horse as an individual, they can be given their own routine so that that Peter doesn't have to drive them if they are not ready to cope with the work. He has a similar approach to feeding. " I work to my feed and feed to my work" is Peter's method.

A major ingredient of Peter's success is the team around him Peter's assistant trainer Tony Haydon has been with him for 15 years and a lot of Peter's success can be attributed to Tony's care and attention. Racing Manager Jeff O'Connor assists with the important task of placing horses to their best advantage and client liasing, Marni Kelly handles the office adminstration, Peter's wife Sarah an experienced horse woman assists not only with the running of the office but also with trackwork and the running of their spelling farm Carbrecel Park.
